UPDATE 11/7/25: How do you solve a problem like Tucker Carlson? We’re assured by some of our favorite conservative pundits that he’s still one of us and that there must be no squabbling within the ranks. However, going along to get along has become a real challenge. Some of us see in him a jarring, consistent perversity at work from a calculating provocateur always on the lookout for hyper-controversial interview subjects, often making a point of taking their objectionable sides to stir up media attention. Among his objectionable subjects: Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Mazoud Pezeshkian, Nick Fuentes, revisionist historian Darryl Cooper). During those interviews, Tucker has rarely challenged these blackguards but just nods his head agreeably, his demeanor and responses predictably one of naive wonder: “But I had no idea!!!!” But of course he does and happily racks up loads of media attention for showcasing these rather disagreeable characters.
Some, most prominently skeptics like Ben Shapiro, don’t like it. True diversity of opinion and energetic debate within a movement are healthy when the prominent leadership shares the same desirable goals and, most importantly, communicates to those they wish to influence who’ the REALLY good guys are and, likewise, who the bad guys are. Knowingly sowing discord and confusion for ratings and an obsession for the limelight is subversion.
Is Tucker Carlson deliberately gaslighting us just for attention? No such thing as bad publicity and all that?
